Tiverton Chiefs

Tiverton Chiefs away to Crossways - 18.01.12

Another perfect spare of 27 on the same alley Half Moon, but this time by Globetrotters’ Captain Graham Prescott, though his team were 1 of the top 5 teams to lose this week in Division A, and with the next four winning, what situation we have. The Ponies are now in clear 2nd place 3 points behind the leaders, but there are 5 teams only 1 point behind them! In fact there are only 6 points behind first and 9th! In Division B, the vital top of the table clash went to Barley Knockons who are now in top spot, with Redwoods in 2nd, Ayshford Arms in 3rd and 3 in joint 4th, again only a few points separate top to 9th. Lion Cubs win this week and join Rose and Crown, who lost, in the top position in Division C, with Lumberjacks and The Merriemeade 1 point behind in joint 3rd, but again anyone’s guess who in following pack will still be there at the end of the season, as only 5 points separate 1st and 8th!! Phew, I am exhausted thinking about it.

REPORTS
1. Manor House Hotel have now lost 2 home games in a row, this week falling at the first hurdle to The Ponies. This means the latter are in clear 2nd place in the table. Ponies flew out of the stalls, and MHH seemed to be on a different race track, and good not get their game together.
2. Globetrotters are another of the top teams to lose this week, as they were routed by Barmy Army. The first leg did not give any indication of the rout to come, as the home team won this by 17, but a soul destroying 40 pins were captured by the Army in the 3rd leg, followed by 20 more in the 4th. Though Globetrotters rallied in the 5th and tucked away 21, the battle was already lost.
3. Bickleigh found Uplowman on a mission! The away team had nothing to lose, and started off by winning the first 2 legs, and though Bickleigh answered the call, and were actually 5 pins up after the 5th, a determined Uplowman pulled 17 pins on the last leg to take those precious points.
4. Bullocks did not enter the game until after the 3rd leg against Castaways, and by then they were grounded as they were 36 pins adrift. The home team did pull back all but 9 of those pins, in a valiant effort to get back to base, but it was a port to far.
5. The Beare initially did not dominate the game against Queens Head, and were only 3 pins to the good going into the last leg, but a 17-pin advantage on that leg, saw them take a comfortable victory. Spares were sparse, but the home team had 2 more than their visitors.
6. Brass Monkeys probably feel at home in this weather! but it did not show in the first 3 legs of their game against Calverleigh! They lost those legs and were 15 pins down, and the game looked gone, but in skittles nothing is over until it is over – and a complete turn around over the last 3 legs, saw BMs winning comfortably.
7. Bradninch C Club found Elmore Club’s scoring better that their defence as they had their backs against the wall from the off. The visitors posted 3 legs of 90+, finishing with a 24 run advantage on the last leg, to take a very welcome 2 points.
8. Uffculme Bellies took their first win of the second half of the season, at the expense of Settler Boys, who lost their first game! The first 2 legs went to the away team, but then Bellies started to fire on all cylinders, and that was game over, as they won the last 4 legs.

4. Globe Appley win a third game in a row beating Bulldogs by 32 pins, taking 4 of the 5 rubs and gives them a share of 4th.
